Beginning as a saddlery workshop, good craftsmanship and a reputable service has always been at the heart of what we do. Our aim is to offer a complete service. Our Birth
In 1871, James Howe, the current director’s great, great grandfather, began making saddlery and leatherwork in his Alyth workshop. This workshop on Commercial street, Alyth is where our flagship furnishings store would later open.
Later, during the WW1 era, Howes converted from primarily a saddler’s to a furnishings business. For over 100 years we have been decorating our customer’s homes with a range of products and services from cutlery to curtains.
In 1951, we expanded to our current premises on Reform Street, Blairgowrie. Here we continued to trade a wide range of furniture and furnishings under direction of the 3rd and 4th generation of the Howe’s family.
A newspaper clipping from this time highlights Howe’s basic manifesto which has never changed. We are a full package service, offering solutions to all our customers needs and wants.
In 2011 Howes Interiors made the choice to focus its attention on it’s fitted furnishings. Offering made to measure and standard size curtains & blinds and fully fitted carpets and vinyl flooring.
This move allowed us to extend our product lines and offer the largest range of products in the area, which can be seen in our newly redecorated showroom.
Present day, the 6th consecutive generation has joined the firm to assist with the further expansion of our interiors service.
Over 100 years on from the initial venture into furnishings our manifesto remains. We offer expert service on good value made to measure curtains, blinds, carpets and vinyl flooring and accessories with our customers interests at the heart of what we do.

Director
Our company director and 5th consecutive generation of our family firm. Matt spends most of his working week managing removals logistics but spent a period of time building up our fitter interior furnishings service and is still highly involved. Not one to rest, Matt spends his free time taking his family on outdoor adventures around Scotland.

The most recent member of the family to join our team is our director’s niece and 6th consecutive generation working in the company. Louise joined in 2020 and splits her time between assisting our interior furnishings clients and strategising to find the best products and offers for them.
